Steven S. Erickson
JD, MBA, CFP®, NAPFA-RFA, CRM, AWMA, CRPC
Steve Erickson is founder of Fee-Only Investment Advisors, LLC, an independent, Fee-Only (commission-free) financial advisory firm based in central Missouri with offices in Columbia and Jefferson City. While Steve has long held an interest in investing, it was his desire to provide professional, objective advice that efficiently integrates the client’s entire situation that motivated him to establish his own firm.
Steve served in the military for eleven years, many of those years as a helicopter instructor pilot, after graduating from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC, with a BA in Psychology. Later as an Assistant Professor at Washington University, St. Louis, MO, Steve attended Webster University, St. Louis, MO, where he earned two Master’s Degrees – one an MBA and the second in Computer Resource Management. Setting his sights even higher, Steve then attended law school at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Columbia, MO, earning his Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Immediately after becoming a licensed attorney, Steve was recruited to join a leading financial services firm.
Having been a part of the financial services industry for more than fifteen years, Steve can say that he’s always loved helping families achieve their financial goals. In his early years, he learned that he disliked selling products (and that people don’t like to “be sold”). Consequently, he moved to a completely conflict-free, advice-oriented business model. As an independent advisor, he now provides objective advice, retirement planning, comprehensive financial planning, and portfolio management on a Fee-Only basis.
Steve holds the CFP® mark of distinction and both the Accredited Wealth Management Advisor and Chartered Retirement Planning Consultant credentials from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, CO. He is particularly proud to be a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor. Steve’s firm is a Registered Investment Advisor in Missouri which means he is legally required and ethically obligated to serve as a fiduciary to his clients. Even though he is a non-practicing attorney, Steve’s legal training brings an in-depth understanding of complex estate planning.
Steve’s wife works as attorney and they have two wonderful sons with whom he volunteers his time at school and at youth activities. He also serves as the local SCORE Director, an all-volunteer organization established to aid startup and new business thrive. Steve is a Rotarian in the local Breakfast Club. He enjoys spending as much time as possible with his family. Steve also loves to golf and has a passion for playing competitive bridge.
